Dr. Miriam Vistas
Specialised in Veterinary Ultrasound with great interest in Wildlife & Exotic Animals
I am a veterinarian specialized in veterinary ultrasonography and echocardiography, with a particular interest in exotic and zoo animals. I graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Technical University of Lisbon in 2005.
Following graduation, I completed an internship at the Complutense University of Madrid, after which I directed my professional training toward veterinary ultrasound and echocardiography, undertaking numerous internships (including at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists, Cornell University and Alfort Veterinary School), specific courses, and advanced training programs over the years.
Since 2007, I have been working as a freelance ultrasonographer in veterinary clinics and hospitals in Lisbon. I began collaborating with the Lisbon Zoo in 2011 and have maintained this professional partnership ever since. In 2015, I co-founded Espaço Ecovet, the first veterinary diagnostic imaging center in Lisbon.
I believe professional growth does not end with formal education or accumulated experience. Continuous development arises from collaboration, multidisciplinar discussion, and the sharing of knowledge. Being part of this project is therefore both a privilege and a natural extension of my professional path. It represents the kind of environment where knowledge is not only developed but shared — where there is always more to explore, more to learn, and more to contribute
